United Nations Day of Vesak (Bangkok 2014)
EBU president Jamie Cresswell attended the celebrations for the United Nations Day of Vesak 2014, which took place in the UN building in Bangkok, Thailand over two days.
He was invited to speak on one of the panels, entitled ‘Education and Global Citizenship – A Buddhist response’. The keynote speech was given by the Thai minister of education and a special guest was the Vice president of Myanmar.
Jamie: “It was a very good couple of days, giving me the opportunity to meet Buddhists from all over the world. Although there were relatively few people from Europe this year, I met and made good connections with representatives from Serbia, Estonia, Russia, Portugal, and others, none of whom are yet EBU members. I also met our friends from Bhavana House in Israel.
It’s a great event for meeting Buddhist practitioners from all over the world and for discussing how Buddhism is progressing in our countries.”
